Understanding Japan: A Cultural History (The Great Courses)
Task 1: Have some Japanese food!
YUM! We picked up sushi for dinner the other night.Sorry no pictures. It came straight from the supermarket in the tacky plastic box.
Task 2: Japanese Culture Day was first held in 1948, to commemorate the announcement of the country’s post-war constitution on November 3, 1946, which was to make a new start for Japan. Which book did you read this year where someone was searching for or starting a new job, moving far away from their previous home, or otherwise making a new start? (Alternatively, is there one such book among your all-time favorites?)
The Masqueraders -- a long time favorite of mine. Georgette Heyer Regency romance where a father along with his daughter and son are returning to their rightful home (including title) in England after years of grifting on the Continent, including some personal involvement in the Jacobite Rebellion.
The Last Tribe -- a bit of post-apocalyptic fantasy. The few survivors of a pandemic join forces and plan for the future of mankind, finally deciding that Hawaii offers the best climate for survival. Definitely YA -- no graphic sex or violence.
A Stitch in Time -- cozy mystery series -- MC has picked up and moved from SoCal to Minnesota to take over her sister's business after her sister was murdered -- and now solves crimes as well as running the business.
And probably quite a few more whose plot I don't remember.
